After a sluggish start, the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team clicked into high gear to sweep Black Hawk 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 on Tuesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The win keeps the Chargers (16-6, 5-0) alone atop the Arrowhead Conference standings and is the 17th straight league victory for the defending champions.

The Braves (11-12, 3-2) raced to a 12-5 lead to open the match, but Sandburg used four kills and a block from Peyton Bowman (Sciota, Ill./West Prairie) to rally back for a 20-19 lead, its first advantage since the opening point. The Chargers then took the last six points in the set, capped by back-to-back Bowman kills.

Sandburg never looked back in the second after grabbing an 8-3 lead. Trailing 8-7 in the third, the Chargers rattled off a 13-0 run behind the serve of Kelsey Hobson (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone). Sophomore Tearaney Eads (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) had six of her 14 kills on the night during that stretch. Eads tied Bowman for the team lead in kills, with Bowman posting a .765 hitting percentage on 17 attacks.

Freshman Annie McKim (Yates City, Ill./home-schooled) made a major contribution in the final two sets, recording a team-best 3½ blocks. Sophomore setter Cora Vyhnanek (Colchester, Ill./West Prairie) dished out 32 assists, and sophomore libero Emily Bloomer (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) had nine digs.
